Speakers from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will discuss the latest developments on the agency’s DMS policy and its impact on grant budgets. You will also gain valuable insights from a data manager at Stanford Medicine on effectively planning your DMS budget from a researcher's perspective.

  • Ellen Wann, PhD, Team Lead, NIH Office of Science Policy Scientific Data Sharing Policy Division
  • John Borghi, PhD, Data Management Project Manager, Stanford Medicine Office of the Senior Associate Dean of Research

Who Should Attend

This Salon is targeted at life sciences researchers, including principal investigators and trainees. We will be focusing on the NIH DMS Policy, but researchers funded by other institutions or government agencies may find that some of the content is relevant to their grants as well.

At the end of this Salon, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the basics of how the 2023 NIH DMS Policy affects the grant budgeting process.
  • List examples of what can and cannot be included in an NIH DMS budget.
  • Identify the functions of an institutional research office relating to DMS budgeting.
  • Identify a starting point for creating their own DMS budget.
